Ever since the first Great War, humans and dragons have lived in an uneasy peace, most dragons hiding in a realm cut off from humans and humans harvesting the dragons’ bodies for magic. Ezra and his family were the only humans allowed to keep their magic after the war ended and have guarded the border between realms ever since. 

When an autoimmune disease threatens Ezra’s connection to magic, his parents cut him off from the world that raised him and the purpose he was always told he had. They swear to close the gate and end the violence to protect their son. But when their attempts fail, Ezra is left with a broken portal between realms, a world on the precipice, and a best friend willing to join him in any adventure. 

Together, driven by a desperate hope for peace, Ezra and Travis set off for the dragon realm with almost nothing but an old leather notebook and a boat. In order to finish what Ezra’s parents started, they must piece together a forgotten history, find the root of the hatred, and maybe make some friends along the way. Can Ezra and Travis make sense of the world they know almost nothing about and prevent another Great War?
